The main reason these should be avoided is that the government has absolutely no control over them, meaning that most of these organizations are laden with corruption and deception. 527 GroupsĪ 527 group is a type of organization that raises money for political purposes. It’s not entirely clear where the rest of the money goes, but it’s pretty obvious that it is not being used to help veterans. That’s more than can be said about the National Veteran’s Service Fund, whose only IRS donation is a small amount given to a health clinic specializing in birth defects. Most of the charities on this list are pretty bad about using their money to actually help people, but they at least do actually donate money. Project Cure is a charity claiming to raise awareness about some of the biggest diseases of the day, but the Florida branch of the organization is well-known for using almost none of its money to actually achieve this goal. Of course, this isn’t very accurate since only about 2.5% of their income goes towards this goal. This charity is designed to serve as a knock-off Make A Wish Foundation (an actually good charity) and claims to help sick children. ![]()
